I went by my old highschool at ~3PM today, and was struck by the differences in generations. 20 years ago we had a handful of seriously overweight people, but now it seems the distribution curve has shifted over +20 lbs and is a lot lower, ie a lot more slightly heavy, heavy, and really heavy people than when I was in school.

When I went to public school (in the "ghetto" of Silicon Valley), there were probably about 3 seriously overweight people and quite a few heavy people; the obese ones most prominently were girls and the heavy ones guys. Now that I go to a private school there are a lot less heavy people. Now that I think about it, obesity probably has a lot to do with a person's/family's economic situation and education.
