Decades ago, many a would-be productive hour was lost to one version or another of Spacewar, generally considered to be the first computer game. Now there's a Java-based version that emulates the PDP-1 version and runs in your browser. (The site seems to be down right now -- watch for mirrors.)

*sighs wistfully* Spacewar ... I once worked with some pals on CompuServe on a Spacewar clone ... Can you believe I was actually the guy doing the graphics ? Me neither. Too bad we lost contact before it was finished.
